Come on July!

Eric Church

Hey everyone,

Well May is nearly behind us, but I am already looking ahead to the end of July when Eric Church is set to release his third studio album entitled “Chief.” I am a huge fan of Eric and can’t wait to hear what he has in store for us on this next disc.

Eric has a unique voice, a way with words and a passion to stand out from the crowd, which may have played a role in him not hitting it big as quickly as some more mainstream and radio-friendly artists. This might explain how an artist set to release his third studio album could have been nominated for Best New Artist at the most recent Academy of Country Music Awards. Members of the Eric Church Choir will tell you he’s not exactly new on the scene.

Eric seems to be cut from the same cloth as mavericks such as Cash, Waylon, Hank Jr., or Steve Earle - artists who weren’t afraid to go against the grain and risk commercial success in an effort to create something real, true, meaningful and lasting. Eric’s latest studio release “Carolina” has recently been certified gold, despite the lack of big television exposure or large-scale support from country radio. It’s good to know that great music will find a way despite the lack of vision of the powers that be.

So mark your calendars for July 26, 2011, and pick up a copy of “Chief” by Eric Church, because trust me, you won’t be sorry.

Oh, and finally, you just have to feel really good to see Sara Evans hit number one again with her single “A Little Bit Stronger.” After a much publicized divorce due to her ex-husband’s infidelity, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this success. Way to go Sara.

Have a great week everyone.

Welcome to,

As the name suggests, I’ll be posting weekly blogs relating to happenings in country music. Now as most of the news in the industry is made in Nashville TN, a lot of the talk here will involve artists both residing and working in Nashville. However, I am based in Canada and hope to share with you some great Canadian country music that you may not have had occasion to hear.

Being new to the world of blogging, I look forward to learning on the fly and welcome all comments and suggestions. While I have a love for many different genres and styles of music, country music has always been number one in my heart. So come back often, and let’s share ideas and thoughts about unknown or emerging artists, or reminisce about great artists of the past.

God bless and happy listening.
